Tunisia: current account deficit narrows to 5.1 billion dinars at end September 2021

The good performance of diaspora remittances offset the effect of the widening FOB trade balance (-9,467 million dinars against -8,064 million at the end of September 2020), therefore contributing to mitigating the current account deficit for the whole of the first nine months of 2021.

Thus, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), the current account deficit narrowed to 5,145 million dinars (or 4.2% of GDP) at end-September 2021, down from 5,794 million dinars (or 5.3% of GDP) a year earlier.

Excluding energy, the current account deficit narrowed to 1.8 billion dinars (or 1.5% of GDP), as of the end of the first nine months of 2021, from 2.1 billion dinars (or 2% of GDP) a year earlier.
