Tunisia: EBRD to open office in February 2013

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will open a regional office in Tunis in February 2013, said President of the Bank, Suma Chakrabarti.

After a meeting held Tuesday in Tunis with Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem, the EBRD Chief said the representation of the EBRD in Tunis essentially aims to assist the Tunisian private sector, including SMEs, and to support the Tunisian government in working out development policies.

The President of the EBRD also stated that the bank is willing to cooperate with Tunisia in several sectors, citing essentially infrastructure, banking, transportation, assistance to the private sector and food industries.

Chakrabarti and the Foreign Minister signed the EBRD Headquarters Agreement in Tunis.

The agreement fulfills the conditions to guarantee smooth running of the bank’s business in the country.
