Tunisia: economists sound alarm

The Tunisian Association of Economists (ASECTU) called on all political forces, social partners and civil society to take responsibility and grow aware of the seriousness of the current economic situation and the future of the country.

“Following the serious events that hit the national political scene in recent days, the country cannot afford such a situation for fear of facing an external payments crisis with as consequences a severe depreciation of the dinar, difficulties to import necessary goods, strong inflationary pressures and the risk of defaulting payments,” says the association.

In a statement released Sunday, it emphasizes the need to “take all necessary urgent measures in order to achieve a political consensus to restore confidence and to deal with terrorism, conditions necessary to ensure the economic recovery.”
