Tunisia: EU disburses €150 million in financial support

The European Union (EU) has disbursed 150 million euros (almost 506 million dinars) in financial support to Tunisia, the European Commission announced in a press release on Monday.

This €150 million budget support consists of a direct financial transfer from the European Union to the Tunisian Treasury in the form of a grant.

This financial support is part of the Tunisian macroeconomic reform support program (PARME) agreed between the EU and Tunisia in December 2023.

The disbursement of the EU budget support will be made on the basis of actual progress in the implementation of the structural reforms undertaken by Tunisia.

It is intended to support Tunisia in stabilizing its macroeconomic situation and assist in its efforts to improve the management of public finances and the business climate.

This support will strengthen the State’s capacity to ensure stable and inclusive growth and confirms the EU’s commitment to supporting Tunisia’s economic reform path in the current socio-economic context.

This EU support is part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on a strategic and comprehensive partnership signed by the two parties in Tunis on 16 July 2023, and contributes in particular to its first pillar, which is devoted to macroeconomic stability.

This support demonstrates the commitment of the EU and Tunisia to work together to achieve and implement the various areas of work agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding and its five pillars: Macroeconomic stability, Economy and trade, Green energy transition, Bringing people together, Migration and mobility.

For her part, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: “The EU is continuing to stand by Tunisia, by disbursing €150 million in support of economic reforms and financial stability. This is an important step in the framework of our agreement concluded last year and a good step forward in our partnership.
