Tunisia: EU disburses €162-million grant

Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Saied, on Wednesday evening, met Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Tunisia Marcus Cornaro.

The meeting focused on cooperation in various areas while taking stock of progress made in the progress of the financial cooperation program.

The Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning welcomed the recent disbursement of a €162- million as part of a program to support government reforms in several areas, namely investment liberalization, economic governance, improving the competitiveness of the economy and exports, in addition to the energy transition and justice.

The grant to Tunisia is added to a previous grant worth €51 million disbursed by the EU in early April to support the education, social inclusion and rural development sectors.

By adding the €300 million budget support for the second tranche of the third loan disbursed in May 2022, the total amount of EU funding for 2022 so far is €513 million.

Marcus Cornaro said the EU is ready to keep supporting Tunisia at all levels while committing to help the authorities to carry out its reform programs so that they can restore the stability of the various economic and financial balances.

“The EU is concerned to achieve a sustainable and effective economic transition in Tunisia, while promoting the national democratic achievements,” he said.

In addition, he stressed that the EU was satisfied with the pace of implementation of various cooperation programs and preparation for Tunisia to benefit of European programs and mechanisms.
