Tunisia: Foreign exchange reserves up 21 days of imports over one year

Foreign exchange reserves have increased by more than TND 3.5 billion, equivalent to 21 days of imports in one year (from January 5, 2023 to same date in 2024), according to monetary and financial data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

In fact, foreign exchange reserves now exceed TND 26.6 billion dinars (equivalent to 121 days of imports), compared with 23 billion dinars (or 100 days of imports) at the beginning of January 2023, thanks to a significant increase in tourism receipts and workers’ remittances over the past year. Tourism receipts rose by 28% in 2023 compared to 2022, to almost 7 billion dinars.

Similarly, earned income increased slightly by 2%, from 7.3 billion dinars on 31 December 2023 to 7.5 billion dinars today.

Accumulated external debt service has increased by 31.7% to 11.7 billion dinars, compared to 8.9 billion dinars at the end of December 2022.
