French industrial company Soitec announces the commissioning of the first Tunisian concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) power station for pumping and irrigation in arid zones.
Soitec said the group undertakes with all its Tunisian partners to provide sustainable solutions for the production of electricity, serving the energy security of Tunisia as well as agricultural and regional development.
“CPV technology is ideally suited to the strong direct sunlight of Tunisia, whether for local applications such as pumping and irrigation or the development of large power plants,” it indicated.
Produced by Soitec in partnership with the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) and the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, this first station feeds a well for the irrigation of a 105-hectare palm grove.
“Thanks to Soitec’s CPV technology, it enables 270 farmers in Om SOMAA to benefit from a high yield energy source to produce electricity autonomously’, says Soitec.
To optimize the production of renewable energy in the service of regional agricultural development in Tunisia, other solar stations can be deployed to supply irrigation pumps with power.
Soitec and its partners already plan to install four new units in the governorate of Kebili.
As part of its partnership with Tunisia, the French Government supports this program with a contribution of 239,272 Euros.
