Tunisia exported 2,696 tons of fruit between January 1 and September 4, 2023, down 44.7% compared with the same period last year.
In terms of value, these exports fell by almost 15% over the same period, according to data published on Tuesday by GIFruits, mainly due to a drop in the quantities of fruit exported to Libya, from 38,285 tons between January and September 2022 to 19385 tons currently.
The Libyan market, which alone accounts for about 73.5% of Tunisia’s fruit exports, imported 8,022 tons of peaches, 3,461 tons of plums and 3,423 tons of apricots during the current season.
Tunisia’s second largest customer is Italy, which imported 4,817 tons of fruit, including 4,314 tons of watermelons.
