Tunisia: IMF ready to support the government of Habib Essid (Lagarde)

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is ready to continue supporting the new Tunisian government, within the framework of the continuity of the state and democratic transition, said IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.

Speaking at a meeting held on Tuesday at IMF headquarters in Washington with outgoing Prime Minister Mehdi JOMAA, she stressed that the IMF is satisfied with the achievements of Tunisia’s democratic transition and policy.

Christine Lagarde has, also, welcomed the indicators achieved by Tunisia in 2014, including reducing the budget deficit and bringing inflation under control, rationalization of subsidy spending and recapitalization of state banks, in accordance with the Finance Act 2015, reports the Prime Ministry in a statement.
