Tunisia imposes safeguard measure on imports of iron or non-alloy steel wires

The WTO (World Trade Organization) Committee on Safeguards notified Tunisia of its decision on iron or non-alloy steel wires, deciding to impose quota restrictions on the subject goods for a period of three years.

According to this information, reported by “Steel News”, the import quota is set at 764 tons from the date of publication until November 30, 2024. The quota for the period from December 1, to November 30, 2025 is 1,020 tons, and the quota for the period from December 1, 2025 to November 30, 2026 is 1,274 tons.

It is not known whether this measure is linked to Tunisia’s interest in saving El Fouladh, as the Tunisian Ministry of Industry has not published anything on the subject, but the same foreign source explains that the products concerned are uncoated iron wire or unalloyed steel wire used in the manufacture of furniture and mattress springs, with an average carbon content of between 0.25% and 0.6% or more.
