Tunisia: Law on cheques will reduce inflation, says accountant

The new law on cheques (amending Article 411 of the Commercial Code) will reduce the rate of inflation, Kais Fekih, an academic and chartered accountant, told Mosaique FM on Tuesday, January 7.

“This law will encourage a change in the consumption system. Cheques contributed to inflation because Tunisians used them as a means of postponing payments due to a lack of available funds (…) this will no longer be the case with the new law,” he explained.

On another level, Kais Fekih explained the devaluation of the dinar against foreign currencies as exogenous inflation due to the increase in the price of imported goods, reports Mosaique FM.
