Tunisia: leather and footwear industry posts positive coverage rate of 155.4%

The leather and footwear industry’s trade balance recorded, during the last 11 months, a coverage rate of 155.4%: 948.9 million dinars (MTD) for exports and 610.8 MTD for imports.

The total value of exports stood at 948.9 MTD, compared with 875.5 MTD during the same period of 2010, i.e. an 8% increase, the National Leather and Footwear Centre said in its November 2011 newsletter.

Several sectors posted increases in exports, like those of the leather goods (45%) and leather clothing (77%) and leather industry (33%) and those of accessories and components (19%).

Complete uppers sector recorded, on its part, a slight decrease of 0.2% from 534.2 MTD in 2010 to 533.2 MTD in 2011, says the newsletter.

Imports recorded a 7.3% growth during the last 11 months, compared with the same period in2010, reaching 610.8 MTD.

The net balance is of 338.1 MTD, mainly generated by the sectors of complete uppers (500.3 MTD), shoe uppers (118.8 MTD) and leather goods (91.7 MTD).
