Tunisia: manufacturing industry has had five quarters of negative growth

During this period, Tunisia’s manufacturing industry was shaken by the negative impact of the global financial and economic crisis that began in 2008, which resulted in a contraction in external demand that affected Tunisia’s main export sectors.

The second time Tunisia recorded negative growth in the Manufacturing Industries branch for three successive quarters was in the last quarter of 2016 and the first two quarters of 2017.

During the period, industry was strongly affected by the fall in the building materials, ceramics and glass, chemical industries, petroleum refining activities and, to a lesser extent, by the agri-food and textile, clothing and leather industries.
