Remittances by Tunisians living abroad reached the equivalent of TND 7,515 million at the end of 2023, up TND 149 million compared with December 31, 2022.
Expressed in euros, the remittances transferred by the Tunisian diaspora to their country of origin amounted to €2,237 million (average annual rate on the interbank market: 1 euro = 3.3584 dinars).
As illustrated by the scale of the funds sent each year by Tunisians living abroad, and over and above money transfers, their contribution could have a significant impact on development.
Despite this, successive governments over the last few years have failed to successfully involve expatriates in efforts to reduce poverty and promote development in Tunisia.
