Tunisia: new Minister of Tourism seeks to attract 7 million tourists

The newly appointed Minister of Tourism, Jamel Gamra, Monday, told Express FM, he is vested with an “express mission” in an area that needs a fast action of recovery.

He added that his first priority will be to create the conditions for success for the next tourist season and concentrate on tourists-generating markets with immediate returns.

Among them, he cited Tunisian expatriates who are invited to return en masse at home and spend foreign currency in it, near markets (Algeria, Libya …) and the Russian market for the promotion of which a budget of 2 million Euros will be allocated.

“The goal is to host 7 million tourists in 2013,” he said before adding that “interest will be taken in traditional markets and door to door action will be taken to this end.”

The Minister noted that the success of this strategy depends on four factors: the establishment of security, the effort required by municipalities and local authorities in general to ensure the cleanliness of beaches and sites, the level of commitment of professionals to improve the quality of tourism services and finally promoting Tunisia as a confirmed tourist destination.
