According to figures provided by the department of communication of the Centre for Packing and Packaging, Packaging exports posted an increase of 28% during the first two months of 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The sector’s exports reached 47.400 MTD in 2012, while imports registered a decline of 3% in weight and 24% in value.
Imports of metal packaging reported an average rate of increase of 28% over the 2010-2012 period and a coverage rate of imports by exports of 60%, said the source.
The trade balance in the sector of plastics packaging recorded a deficit, registering a 29% rate of coverage of imports by exports.
In 2012, imports of plastics packaging reached 51.993 MTD, while exports totaled 24.367 MTD.
