Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Javed Ahmed Umrani, has underlined his country’s interest in boosting investment in Tunisia, as the volume of bilateral trade is approaching $31.7 million in 2021-2022.
During a meeting with the CEO of the Export Promotion Centre (CEPEX), Mourad Ben Hassine, Umrani said that this cooperation is due to the fact that Tunisia is a platform from which to conquer neighboring and African markets.
He stressed the desire to strengthen economic cooperation between Tunisia and Pakistan and the determination of the commercial and economic departments of the embassy to provide the necessary support to Tunisian economic operators.
He also stressed the importance of organizing business missions for delegations of Tunisian businesspeople in the Republic of Pakistan, as well as for Pakistani delegations, according to a CEPEX press release.
The two parties reviewed the possibilities of developing bilateral trade and also discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the two organizations.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to examine mechanisms for expanding and promoting cooperation between the two countries in the trade and economic sectors, as well as overcoming the difficulties faced by Tunisian companies exporting to the Pakistani market.
The value of Tunisian exports to Pakistan reached nearly TND 23.3 million in the first 10 months of 2023.
At the end of the first 10 months of 2023, Pakistan was Tunisia’s third largest customer in the South Asian region, with a 22% share of exports, after India (84.6%) and Bangladesh (12.9%).
The basket of Tunisian exports to Pakistan consisted of manufactured products, 95.6% of which were produced and processed from natural products and resources.
Tunisia’s untapped export opportunities to this market are estimated at $4.9 million.
