Tunisia: Passenger traffic through local airports up 6.2% in Q1

Air passenger traffic through Tunisian airports increased by 6.2% in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.

It reached 1,761,894 “passenger movements”, according to statistics published on Monday by the Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA).

This upward trend affected air traffic at most Tunisian airports, with an increase of 5.4% at Tunis Carthage International Airport (1,473,527 movements), 8.1% at Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (240,548 movements), 11.7% at Sfax-Thyna International Airport (37,709 movements), 160.3% at Tozeur-Nefta International Airport (9,269 movements) and 33.9% at Tabarka-Ain Draham International Airport (841 movements).

OACA statistics also show a 5.1% increase in commercial traffic (aircraft movements) in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with 15,394 aircraft movements recorded.

In terms of aircraft movements, the increase was 5.5% for Tunis Carthage International Airport (12,420 movements), 7.5% for Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (1,974 movements) and 78.9% for Tozeur-Nefta International Airport (136 movements).

Aircraft movements fell by 3.2% and 22.6% respectively at Sfax-Thyna (816 movements) and Tabarka-Ain Draham (48 movements) international airports.

Overflights (aircraft crossing Tunisian airspace) reached 14 737 movements in the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 24.7% compared with the same period in 2023.
