Tunisia: shortage of phosphate may cause suspension of production in plants

Production in the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT)’s plants declined sharply over the last few days (less than 1/5 of normal production) due to a shortage of phosphates, said regional director of GCT in Gabes, Larbi Trabelsi.

“Problems had started on April 8 when the flow of quantities of phosphate to plants has been suspended because of the sit-in observed in the mining area,” said M.Trabelsi, in a statement to TAP correspondent in the region.

“This could cause a total shutdown of production in factories because of a possible depletion of the stock,” he added.
