Tunisia: Slight drop in inflation to 5.2% in August

The inflation rate stood at 5.2% in August 2025, compared to 5.3% in July, marking a slight decline, according to data published Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

This decrease is explained by the slowdown in the pace of price increases for clothing and footwear (8.9% in August vs. 9.1% in July) and for leisure and culture (5.4% vs. 5.9%).

On the other hand, food prices continued to rise at the same rate, +5.9% year-on-year.

In fact, in August 2025, food prices rose by 5.9% year-on-year. This increase was driven by higher prices for fresh vegetables (+23%), edible oils (+12%), fresh fruits (+13.4%), and fresh fish (+10.8%). Conversely, potato prices fell by 24%.

Manufactured goods recorded an annual increase of 5.1%, mainly due to higher clothing and footwear prices (+9%) and household cleaning products (+5.2%).

As for services, prices rose by 4.7%, driven by higher costs in restaurants, cafés, and hotels (+10%).

Core inflation (excluding food and energy) fell to 5.4% in August, compared to 5.6% in July. Meanwhile, free product prices rose by 6.2%, compared to only 1.8% for regulated products.

Regarding food, free product prices increased by 6.8%, while regulated food product prices rose by only 0.2%.
