Tunisia: Tourism receipts are up 46%, more in USD than in Euros

Tourism receipts reached 3,257.4 million dinars (MD) until October 10, 2018, up 46.1% over the same period of 2017, according to data released by the Prime Ministry.

The revenues in Euros rose by 26.8% to 1,061.2 million and those in dollars grew by 36.4% to $ 1,268.4 million over the same period.

With regard to border entries, the number of tourists visiting Tunisia until 20 October 2018 increased by 17% to 6,719,368 visitors.

European tourists grabbed the lion’s share with 43.9% of arrivals. By nationality, the French come first with 663,221 tourists, up 38.5%, followed by Russians (591,152) and Germans (246,110).

Regarding Tunisia’s traditional markets, the first place goes to Algerians (1,990,620 entries up 4.1%), followed by Libyans with 1,175,493 visitors (+ 11.4%).

The same source reveals that the number of Chinese tourists increased by 43.3% to 21,873 people until October 20, 2018.

In terms of overnight stays by region, the Djerba / Zarzis area recorded the highest number of overnight stays (5.8 million overnight stays), followed by Sousse (4.26 million overnight stays).

From January 1 to October 20, 2018, the number of overnight stays grew by 24.2% compared to the same period of 2017 (22.488 million overnight stays).

Only 37.9% of this increase concerns the overnight stays by non-residents, the rest is distributed between those of Russians (5,485,806 overnight stays), French (2,690,930), German (2,251,403), Algerians (22,186,160) and other nationalities (5,084,621).

On the other hand, the number of overnight stays by residents fell by 9.3% to 4.757 million.
