Tunisia: trade balance of fisheries sector records surplus 111 MTD

Fish production reached more than 105,000 tons valued at 445 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) during the first ten months of 2014, against 101,000 tons valued at 433 MTD in the same period in 2013, i.e. a slight increase of 4% in quantity and 2.7% in value, said a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture.

As for fish production, it is estimated at around 9,507 tons at the end of October 2014 against 9,594 tons during the same period in 2013.

Regarding exports, they reached 17,000 tons in quantity and 218 MTD in value during the first 10 months 2014, against 15,000 tons in quantity and 188 MTD in value over the same period in 2013, posting an increase of 13.3% in quantity and 15.9 MTD in value.

The sector’s imports reached 33,000 tons in quantity and 107 MTD in value MD during the same period, against 29,000 tons worth 100 MTD during the same period in 2013, recording a respective rise of 13.7% in volume and 7% in value.

The Ministry of Agriculture’s indicators point, therefore, to a surplus of 111 MTD in the sector’s balance of trade against 88 MTD during the same period 2013.
