Tunisia: trade deficit widens by nearly 70% and nears TND 10 billion until end of May

Tunisia’s trade balance deficit has increased by 67% during the five months of 2022, compared to the same period last year, announced the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Indeed, the trade deficit stood at 9.93 billion dinars at the end of last May, against 5.94 billion during the five months of 2021. The coverage rate has therefore lost 5.7 points compared to the same period of the year 2021 to settle at 70.1%.

This deepening is attributed to the 35.3% growth of imports against a 25.1 rise of exports during the five months of the year 2021, to TND 33.2 billion, from TND 24.5 billion at the end of May 2021.

As for exports, they went up of 25.1% against a rise of 24.7% during the five months of the year 2021, to reach TND 23.3 billion, against 18.6 billion at the end of May 2021.
