Tunisia: Tunisair starts 2014 with record load factor in February

The number of passengers transported by «Tunisair” increased by 7.6 % from February 1 to 20, 2014, compared to the same period in February 2013 and 11.5 % compared with 2012, reaching 146, 680 against 136,368 passengers in 2013 and 131,539 passengers in 2012, the national carrier announced in a statement.

The overall load factor grew 7.8 points, posting a record of 73.3 % in the month of February, it said.

By destinations served, the market of Saudi Arabia has recorded the largest increase, up 256.7 % with 9,190 passengers against 2,576 passengers in 2013, primarily due to the start of the 2014 Umrah season.

This is also the case for the Algerian market which went up 42.9% with 5,699 passengers, followed by the British market (+38.2 % with 2,787 passengers against 2,016 passengers in 2013) and Turkey (+32.8 % to 4,518 passengers).

The Italian and Libyan markets have also registered an improvement during the period of February 2014, increasing respectively by 19.3% (12,137 passengers against 10,202 passengers in 2013) and 15.4 % (31,640 against 27,420 in 2013).

However, the number of passengers carried on the French market , the main destination served by Tunisair, declined 6.1% from 50,350 in February 2013 to 47,297 passengers transported in 2014.

Although preliminary, these results herald a good start in 2014 with an increase of 8.6 % in terms of number of passengers compared to 2013 for the period between January, 1 to February 20n 2014, said the national carrier.
