Tunisia: two Japanese loans of 730 million dinars

Tunisia and Japan exchanged during a ceremony held Monday, June 30, 2014 letters on two loans granted by Japan to finance a project to protect Oued Medjerda from flood and a project on a combined cycle power plant in Rades.

730 million dinars will be allocated by Japan to implement these two projects: the implementation of the project to protect Oued Medjerda from flood to improve downstream rivers to promote the lives of people around the Oued Medjerda to the tune of 150 million dinars and the “project of a combined cycle power plant in Rades” to increase the supply of electricity to meet the high demand for electricity in Tunisia, up to 580 million dinars.

This amount is the highest since Japan began its financial cooperation with Tunisia in 1977. This cooperation has resulted in an overall amount of 3 billion 800 million dinars contracted through 39 loans in yen.
