Tunisia: Phosphate production completely paralyzed in Metlaoui

Sources from the mine basin told Africanmanager the city Metlaoui is living through a total paralysis.

Phosphate production is completely blocked and the other city services (banks, shops …) closed on Monday, while the road connecting the city of Tozeur to Metlaoui was cut some time during the day.

Leaders of this movement requires the immediate publication of results of a staffing competition of the environment company and refuse any postponement of the announcement of results of this competition which should enable 1100 young people to be hired.

CPG and Regional Authorities fear violent protests as was the case in December 2011 in Oum Larayes and Mdhilla, since these results are one of the last chances to recruit young unemployed.

The same officials noted that the results produced by a private design office contain several errors in the application of criteria for recruitment and decided to involve civil society associations in the deliberations.
