Tunisia: unemployment rises to 16.1% in Q1 2023 from 15.2% in Q4 2022

The unemployment rate in Tunisia rose to 16.1% in the first quarter of 2023, against 15.2% in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics on Monday.

The number of unemployed registered during the same period reached 655,800, against 624,000 in the fourth quarter of 2022, up 31,200.

Men’s unemployment rate rose to 13.9 per cent, compared to 12.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022, and women’s went up to 21.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 20.1 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The unemployment rate for young people aged 15 to 24 rose to 40.2% in the first quarter of 2023, compared with 38.8% in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The male unemployment rate rose to 42.3% in the same period, compared with 38.6% in the fourth quarter of 2022. The female unemployment rate decreased from 39.1% in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 35.3% in the first quarter of 2023.
