Tunisia: “we are working to sign mutual recognition agreement with EU in 2017” (minister)

Tunisia is working to sign a mutual recognition agreement with the European Union in 2017, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Zakaria Hamad said on Sunday.

At a plenary session dedicated to the adoption of the budget of the Ministry of Industry, Hamad stressed that efforts will be focused on expanding the list of products covered by this agreement, which will be limited mainly to building materials and mechanical and electrical products.

Speaking of the program adopted by his department for the promotion of the industrial sector, the minister added that the effort will be focused on the development of accreditation through the installation of 140 accredited laboratories and improvement of normalization mechanisms to establish security systems for more than 17,000 quality standards.

The Ministry of Industry will work, he has said, to improve the competitiveness of companies in 2016, focusing on the three activities that account for 70% of the industrial sector.

Other achievements will be performed, including the continuation of development programs and the organization of a national conference on the 20th anniversary of the upgrade program, the aim being to come out with recommendations concerning this program.
