Tunisia, world’s second largest producer of olive oil after Spain

Tunisia is this year unprecedentedly the world’s second largest producer of olive oil after Spain, whose production is estimated at 600,000 tons.

Domestic production of olive oil expected for this year is estimated at 280,000 tons, nearly four times the harvest last season (70 thousand tons), Noureddine Aguerbi, director of the food industry in the Ministry of Industry said in a statement to TAP.

Tunisia exports, on average, between 60 and 70% of its production of olive oil, especially to Spain and Italy.
