Turkish group Aksa Composites chooses Tunisia for its first factory in Africa

Turkish group Aksa Composites, a subsidiary of the Akkök Group and specialized in the production of composite materials for the aeronautical and industrial sectors, plans to set up a production unit in Tunisia.

Received by the Director General of FIPA Tunisia, a delegation from the company confirmed an investment project estimated at approximately $5 million. The project involves the manufacturing of carbon fibers and advanced composite materials used in high-value-added sectors.

According to the FIPA Tunisia press release, this project is part of a discussion process that has been underway for several months between the agency, the Tunisian Aeronautical and Spatial Industries Group (GITAS) and the Turkish investor. Several meetings, missions, and working visits have been organized to structure this partnership.

The press release also specifies that initial contacts date back to the Hamburg Aviation Forum, held on December 10 and 11, 2025, in Germany. The Turkish group also indicates that it will actively continue discussions in the coming weeks to finalize the operational aspects of the project, although the exact location of the unit has not yet been disclosed.

A group seeking expansion

The Turkish group Aksa Composites, a subsidiary of the Akkök Group, is one of Turkey’s leading advanced materials players. The parent company, founded in 1952 and active in the chemicals, energy, and materials sectors, has gradually strengthened its position in technical fibers and high-performance composites.

Founded in 2011, Aksa Composites specializes in the production of advanced composite materials primarily for the aeronautical, space, and defense industries.

It develops high-value-added parts, structures, and technical solutions, working with several international players in the sector, particularly in aeronautics and industrial engineering.

At the same time, the group relies on an integrated ecosystem that notably includes carbon and technical fiber activities developed in Turkey, with a strong presence in the energy, aeronautics, and infrastructure markets.

Today, Aksa Composites’ activities are mainly based in Turkey, where its industrial site is located, but also extend through partnerships and contracts with international manufacturers (Airbus, Bell, KAI, etc.).

The group still has little direct presence in Africa but is increasing its expansion efforts toward emerging markets, especially in the MENA region, driven by growing demand for advanced materials. In this context, Tunisia would represent its first industrial establishment in the region.
