West African traders get new information centre at Ivorian-Ghanaian border

An information centre for traders, provided by the US government, was opened Thursday in Noé, on the border between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana — an initiative of ECOWAS and its partners, according to diplomatic sources.

The opening of border Information Centre is an initiative launched in collaboration ECOWAS and other partners, according to Phililip Carter III, the US Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire.

According to him, it shows the commitment of the US to work with African countries to promote development and economic growth.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Gene Cretz, was also at the opening ceremony.

The USAID Business Environments for Agile Markets and the USAID West Africa Trade Hub, in close collaboration with the Ivoirian Shippers’ Council and the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, are operating at the new centre which offers practical information to traders at border crossings.

The fifth of its kind, the Noe Border Information Centre is modeled after “Border Information Centers” at the borders of Benin-Nigeria, Burkina Faso-Ghana, Ghana-Togo and Senegal’s Port of Dakar.

The centres have helped stakeholders to successfully identify the causes of delay and harassment at borders and take action to reduce them considerably
