Tunisia: oil companies stay

Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Zakaria Hamad denied, on Monday, reports about the intention of companies operating in the oil and hydrocarbons field of leaving Tunisia.

He, however, admitted in a statement to the press on the sidelines of the signing of a loan agreement between ETAP (Tunisian Company of Petroleum Activities) and AfDB (African Development Bank) that “some companies are evaluating the profitability of their activities in Tunisia without, however, expressing the desire to leave the country.”

According to him, “the concerns of foreign investors operating in the fields of oil and gas are legitimate, especially after the decline in global demand on energy, which is likely to reduce the profit of small projects.”

In the same context, the Minister added that “Tunisia continues to invest in the energy sector and develop specific projects such as the permit ” Nawara” south of the country to increase natural gas production to 25% .
