Tunisia: current account deficit widens to 7.1% of GDP (BCT

The Executive Board the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), which met Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Tunis, noted the continued expansion of the current account deficit (+ 35.5% or 1.532 MDT) to 5,843 MTD, i.e. 7.1% of GDP in the first nine months of 2014, against 5.6% for the same period last year.

The BCT explained this widening by the continuous enlargement of the trade deficit (+ 20.6%) which exceeded 10 billion dinars in connection with the quasi-stagnation in exports (+ 0.1%) against an acceleration of imports (+ 6.2%).
