World Bank VP ends visit to Burundi

The vice-president of the World Bank in charge of Sustainable Development, Rachel Kyte, Wednesday ended a three-day working visit to Burundi, pledging the bank’s commitment to further assist the African country in various socio-economic sectors.

After her audience with the Burundian leader, Pierre Nkurunziza, Kyte declared that the World Bank would strongly support Burundi in key sectors of sustainable development like energy, agriculture and infrastructures.

Kyte said she felt “encouraged” by the progress made in Burundi shortly after emerging from several years of civil war.

Some “remarkable” economic reforms were carried out in order to promote investments and the private sector, she emphasized.

During her visit, Kyte also met several government officials and civil society leaders
