WHAT: Global Consultation for the World Humanitarian Summit 2016

WHO: Keynote speakers include Jan Eliasson, UN Deputy Secretary-General; and Didier Burkhalter, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation. Meeting co-chairs are Stephen O’Brien, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator; and Ambassador Manuel Bessler, Head of Swiss Humanitarian Aid, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Switzerland. WHEN: 14-16 October 2015 WHERE: International Conference Centre (CICG) in Geneva, Switzerland The Global Consultation in Geneva 14-16 October will complete the consultative process on the way to the World Humanitarian Summit called for by the UN Secretary-General and hosted by Turkey on 23-24 May 2016. The Global Consultation in Geneva is expected to gather some 900 participants from a wide range of stakeholders in humanitarian action, including affected people themselves. The event will launch the next phase of action to address the most pressing humanitarian challenges of today and tomorrow. Participants include high-level representatives from governments, affected communities, regional organizations, civil society, national and international non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the private sector and academia. Plenary sessions will be open for the press and a press conference will be announced closer to the event. Media badges will be issued at the registration desk at CICG on 14 October from 8 a.m. till 12.00 (noon) to media representatives holding UN media accreditation or presenting press credentials/press card from a bona fide media organisation and a picture ID card.
