Togo: New terminal to cater for 2m passengers

The new airport terminal now under construction at the Lomé international airport in Togo will cater for about two million passengers a year, compared to 400,000 presently, PANA learnt Saturday from the Civil Aviation National Agency (CANA).

According to CANA’s Director General, Col. Gnama Dokissime Latta, the new airport terminal, which will be completed by the end of the year, will have an area of 21,000 square metres and will be equipped with 30 registration counters.

He said the parking space for planes will also be extended.

The new terminal will be equipped with the latest scanners, explosives detectors and a magnetic entrance, among others, to enhance security, according to Col. Latta.

The construction is being carried out by the China Airport Construction Corporation and funded by the China Exim Bank at a cost of US$150 million.

PANA reports that the Lomé international airport has become cramped due to a rise in the volume of air traffic.
