Tunisia: FDI soars by 42.8% to May

Foreign direct investment reached 942.3 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) at the end of May, 2012 against 659.8 MTD, up 42.8%, according to the latest statistics released by the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA).

During this period, 62 new companies have begun production and about 115 expansion operations were carried out, generating 6,125 new job positions, up 20% compared to the number of jobs created during the same period of the year 2011.

Foreign investments are allocated to the tune of 890.4 MTD in FDI and 88.0 MTD in Portfolio against 632.2 MTD and 27.6 MTD, respectively during the first five months of 2011.

The analysis of FDI flows by sector reveals a concentration on the energy and manufacturing industries for respective values of the order of 490 MDT and 212.0 MTD.
