Tunisia: ENI builds 2 PV plants in country’s south

Italian oil giant ENI has completed the construction of its 5 MW photovoltaic plant in the Adam oil concession in the governorate of Tataouine in Tunisia, where it owns 25%. It will supply electricity to the oil site and will include a 2.2 MW/1.5 MWh storage battery system that will facilitate integration with existing gas turbines and optimize operating costs, according to the company.

The project, announced in March, was carried out in partnership with the “Entreprise

Tunisienne d’Activités Pétrolières » (ETAP). The ENI and its Tunisian partner have not disclosed any other technical or financial details concerning the project or their partnership.

In the Tataouine region under the Eni – ETAP cooperation agreement, works are also ongoing to construct an additional photovoltaic plant in the city of Tataouine, which will have an installed capacity of 10 MWp.

The project, undertaken after a public tender issued by the Tunisian Energy Ministry, also includes supplying green electricity to the national company, Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG).
