Visa for Europe: Tunisia, 5th African country in refusal rates

Tunisian Schengen visa applicants ranked fifth among African nationals with the highest visa refusal rates in 2023, according to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfo.com and reported by activist and former MP Majdi Karbaï.

This data underscores the challenges faced by Tunisians seeking to enter the European Union.

In 2023 alone, Tunisians paid approximately €12.78 million in visa processing fees.

Shockingly, €3.1 million of this amount was spent on applications that were ultimately unsuccessful, highlighting the financial burden on applicants who do not receive a visa.

Further data from Schengen News reveals that over the past nine years (from 2014 to 2023), Tunisians have spent around 447 million dinars in their efforts to secure visas for the European area.

The statistics also place Tunisia fifth among African countries with the highest visa refusal rates, trailing behind Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, and Egypt.
