Tunisia imports 30% of its medicines, says CEO of Central Pharmacy

than forty pharmaceutical factories capable of producing more than 70% of the country’s medicines, Mehdi Dridi, CEO of Tunisia’s Central Pharmacy, said on Friday.

Speaking on a radio station, Dridi added that Tunisia imports only 30% of its needs in terms of quantity, but that this quantity has the same monetary value as national production.

He added that some medicines are expensive. These include vaccines, cancer treatments and biotherapeutics.

These drugs are produced using advanced technology.

On another point, he explained that the shortage of medicines is not only linked to Tunisia’s financial situation.
