At the end of December 2024, Morocco accounted for 19.7% of Tunisia’s date exports, well ahead of Italy (7.5%) and Turkey (6.8%).
Driven by Moroccan demand, Tunisian exports increased by 11.4% in terms of value at the end of December 2024, reaching 342.2 million dinars (MD), Moroccan media reported.
According to the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI), this dynamic was accompanied by a 10.5% increase in export volumes, which reached 51,300 tons in the first three months of the 2024/2025 marketing year.
In 2023, Morocco was the world’s second largest importer of dates after India. Dates are the leading category of fruit and vegetables imported into the country, despite the increase in domestic production. The main sources are the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria.
