Tunisia: Workers’ remittances hit nearly USD 2.2 billion by end September

Workers’ remittances continue to play a central role in the national economy.

According to the latest data, transfers reached nearly 6.5 billion dinars by the end of September 2025, compared to 6 billion dinars for the same period in 2024, representing an increase of nearly 8%.

Expressed in US dollars, the amount of funds sent by the Tunisian Diaspora stands at 2.15 billion dollars (based on the average monthly interbank market exchange rate over the 9 months of the year: 1 dollar = 3.019 dinars).

This trend demonstrates the resilience and commitment of the Tunisian Diaspora, whose contributions constitute an essential source of foreign currency for the country.

Workers’ remittances not only represent direct support for families but also a significant contribution to Tunisia’s balance of payments and financial stability.

Compared to other sources of foreign currency, such as tourism revenues or export earnings, workers’ remittances are among the most regular and reliable.

Their increase is all the more important in a context marked by the economic and social tensions the country is experiencing.

At this rate, transfers could exceed the threshold of 8 billion dinars by the end of 2025, thus confirming their structural role in financing the national economy and strengthening the foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Tunisia.
