Tunisia: STB’s NBI up over 6% at end September to 522 million dinars

Société Tunisienne de Banque (STB) showed mixed performance indicators, at the end of September 2025, marked by a sustained increase in deposits and net banking income, despite a notable decline in customer loans and borrowing resources.

Customer deposits increased by 842.6 million dinars, a rise of 7.5% year-on-year, reaching 11,970 million dinars at the end of September 2025.

This positive development stems mainly from the good performance of savings deposits, which rose by 7.3% to 4,869 million dinars, representing 40.6% of all deposits.

Term deposits also showed a strong increase of 21.28%, standing at 2,583 million dinars. On the other hand, sight deposits remained almost stable, recording a slight increase of 0.4% to 4,179 million dinars.

Borrowing resources contracted by 19.6%, falling to 517.7 million dinars from 644.1 million a year earlier. This decrease is due to a reduction in bond and private borrowings (-28%) and special resources (-11%).

Similarly, net customer loans fell by 11.3%, dropping from 9,970 million dinars to 8,845 million dinars as of September 30, 2025.

The structure of the bank’s securities portfolio changed significantly. The commercial portfolio fell by 51.5%, settling at 154.4 million dinars.

Conversely, the investment portfolio experienced strong growth of 54.8%, reaching 4,404 million dinars, reflecting an increased orientation towards long-term investments.

Net banking income (NBI) increased by 6.6%, reaching 522.7 million dinars. This change results from a 3.15% increase in banking operating income to 1,089 million dinars, while banking operating expenses remained almost stable (+0.14% to 566.2 million dinars).

Operating expenses increased slightly by 2.76% to reach 251.8 million dinars, but the efficiency ratio improved, falling from 49.99% to 48.17%, a sign of better cost control.
