Tunisia: Major customs crackdowns…A successful year in 2025

The Tunisian Customs announced that its Customs Guard units and affiliated brigades across the country seized smuggled goods worth a total of 580.5 million dinars in 2025, according to Express FM.

Physical seizures of goods and consumer products exceeded 246 million dinars, while the value of vehicles used for smuggling reached 257 million dinars. The value of fictively seized goods (violations recorded without physical confiscation) was estimated at 77 million dinars, the Customs statement published on Wednesday noted.

In total, the Customs Guard brigades carried out 33,618 patrols, resulting in 16,492 cases related to customs violations and offenses involving the possession and transport of smuggled goods nationwide.

Key Seizures in 2025

Among the main seizures in 2025 were 18 kg of gold, valued at 2.1 million dinars, as well as over 64,000 narcotic pills and 94 kg of narcotic substances.

The Customs Guard brigades also foiled attempts to smuggle foreign currencies worth more than 3.7 million dinars during the year.

In addition, significant quantities of tobacco products were seized, totaling nearly 4 million packs of cigarettes and shisha tobacco, along with smuggled clothing valued at over 9 million dinars.

More than 800 tons of smuggled foodstuffs, worth 17 million dinars, were also confiscated.

The Customs Guard additionally seized mobile phones and accessories worth around 15 million dinars, as well as smuggled spare parts valued at over 5 million dinars.

Finally, at various border offices, Customs carried out major seizures, including 49 kg of gold, foreign currencies estimated at 4.7 million euros and 2.6 million dollars, and approximately 16,000 boxes of medicines intended for illicit export outside Tunisia.
