Tunisia: 44% of companies yet to conquer Africa

The 2026 economic index barometer, prepared by the Tunisian-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, reveals that France remains Tunisia’s main partner.

Indeed, 76% of the companies surveyed declare their intention to maintain or develop their trade with the French market during 2026, according to Mosaique FM.

In contrast, Africa appears as a promising strategic destination, but one that is still insufficiently exploited. In fact, 44% of the business leaders surveyed state that, to date, they have no commercial relations with the African continent.

While this figure may seem worrying, members of the Chamber see it as an opportunity to position Tunisia as a commercial exchange platform benefiting French and international companies targeting African markets.

This dynamic could notably rely on COMESA and AfCFTA agreements, as well as the advantages they provide.

Moreover, the barometer highlights the strength of trade relations between Tunisia and France: 44% of companies anticipate stable exchanges, while 27% expect moderate growth.

Negative prospects, meanwhile, drop sharply to only 8%, confirming France’s enduring role as Tunisia’s primary strategic partner in Europe.
