African startups raise $1.3 billion in H1 2025

According to data from the specialized platform Africa: The Big Deal, African startups collectively raised $1.35 billion in the first six months of 2025.

This represents a significant 78% increase compared to the first half of 2024, when funding was limited to $800 million.

The rebound brings H1 2025 nearly on par with H2 2024 ($1.37 billion), with only a marginal 1.5% difference.

June alone accounted for $365 million in funding, marking the continent’s strongest monthly performance in nearly a year.

On average, African startups raised $237 million per month in H1 2025, up sharply from $133 million during the same period in 2024.

The data confirms a clear resurgence in equity financing interest. Of the $1.35 billion raised by African startups in H1 2025, approximately $950 million came from equity investments.

This represents a 79% increase compared to the same period in 2024. While the total amount remains slightly below (-7%) H2 2024 figures, the platform notes a tangible resurgence in investor appetite for equity stakes, particularly in high-growth sectors like fintech, digital health, and logistics.

June alone saw $227 million in announced debt financing, marking the highest monthly figure in over two years.

Cumulative debt financing for the semester reached $400 million, up 55% year-on-year and nearly matching H2 2024 levels.
