Air Zimbabwe announced Tuesday it was adding a third flight to its twice weekly flights to and from Britain, in response to growing traffic between the two countries.
In a statement, the airline said the additional Friday flights either way would start on 1 April, 2011 and would be to and from Gatwick Airport in Britain.
The country is a experiencing a tourism resurgence from European source markets, after restoring political stability two years ago, the absence of which had led to most countries blacklisting it as a holiday destination.
The United States and most European countries have lifted travel bans on Zimbabwe, imposed on their citizens at the height of the violent tussle for power between President Robert Mugabe and the opposition.
The two sides have since come together in a coalition government.
Air Zimbabwe has also benefitted from the withdrawal of British Airways from the Harare-London route, leaving it the sole carrier servicing the route.
The British carrier abandoned the Harare route at the height of the political instability in the country.
The London route is Air Zimbabwe’s cash cow, and the additional flight is intended to capitalise on summer holiday makers from Europe
