Tunisia: 3,170 local guest workers recruited since January 2013

3,170 Tunisian guest workers have been recruited from January to November, 2013, up 19 % compared to the same period of 2012, according to the latest statistics from the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT).

A total of 14,621 Tunisian guest workers and experts are working abroad in the framework of technical cooperation.

The education and teaching sector accounts for 60 % of the total hires, i.e. 1,901 guest workers. It is followed by the sectors of health (542) and engineering (242).

Gulf countries are the first destinations of Tunisian guest skills with 2,471 (78% of total hires).

Oman ranks first with 1,205 employees (38%), followed by Saudi Arabia (644 recruits), Qatar (329) and UAE (219).

According to the ATCT, Tunisia is turning to new markets like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Canada (171 guest workers).
