‘Angola airline carried more passengers in 2012’

The number of passengers carried by Angolan Airline, TAAG, increased from 1.050 million in 2011 to 1.2 million in 2012, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pimentel Araújo, said on Friday.

Speaking at a meeting between the Minister of Transport, Augusto da Silva Tomás, and the CEO of General Electric (GE), Jess Immelt, he said the company anticipated an increase in air traffic of 14 per cent this year.

Araujo added that the increase in the number of passengers would enable TAAG to purchase new planes.

TAAG signed a contract with Boeing on 27 March 2011 to purchase three planes with the first expected to be delivered in May 2014, the second in December 2015 and the third in March 2016.

The company will also buy another three planes with delivery arrangements made for 2019/2020.
