Congo: Congo spends 4.7 billion FCFA to rehabilitate port

The Congolese government has spent 4.7 billion FCFA on the rehabilitation of the Ouesso port, in the Sangha departmental capital in the north of the country.

An official statement on Thursday said the Deputy Minister in charge of Inland Waterways and Inland Economy, Mr Gilbert Mokoki, inspected the port last week.

The rehabilitation work involved the expansion of the wharf to receive up to two or three boats at the same time, offices for port workers, warehouses, offices for organisations operating in the port, including customs, immigration, police, water and forestry.

However, the port was still under-equipped, Mokoki noted, saying that a port without facilities would not be fully operational.
